Discipleship Pathway
Discipleship is about intentional obedience and recognizing that everyone is being formed by someone or something. To intentionally abide in Jesus, Revolution Church follows a Discipleship Pathway modeled after Jesus’ ministry.
What is the Discipleship Pathway?
Before getting into our Discipleship Pathway, it's helpful to define even what a disciple is. Our working definition comes from theologian, Dallas Willard: A disciple is someone who has decided that the most important thing in their life is to learn to live the way Jesus said to live.
A disciple at Revolution, based on our mission to Love Jesus and GROW people, is someone who is Grounded in the Gospel, Rooted in Relationships, Operating in Obedience and Walking in Good Works.
Discipleship is about your next step of obedience. We are all following something or someone. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are all being formed or, as some would say, “discipled.” John Mark Comer says it like this: “For those of us who desire to follow Jesus, here is the reality we must turn and face: If we’re not being intentionally formed by Jesus himself, then it’s highly likely we are being unintentionally formed by someone or something else.” We are all disciples of something. The big question is what or who is that?
The questions we should ask ourselves are not: Am I becoming someone? Am I following someone? Am I believing someone? The questions we should ask ourselves are: Who am I becoming? Who am I following? Who am I believing?
So, if we are abiding in Jesus (seeking to do as He did and following Him) then we should do that in the way that His disciples did. We have put this into a simple pathway that mirrors the way Jesus led His disciples. We call it the Discipleship Pathway. We base this pathway on how Jesus modeled his ministry. Jesus ministered to people in different sizes of groups where He taught larger gatherings of people and then discipled them in smaller groups.
Gatherings: Jesus taught thousands and at times hundreds. We do the same with our weekend gatherings and other gatherings throughout the year.
Teams: Jesus sent out the 72 on mission (Luke 10:1-23). We do this through people serving on teams.
Community Groups: Jesus invited the 12 to follow Him. We do this through Community Groups as we REAP (Read, Examine, Apply and Pray) through the verses from the weekend message.
FOURmation Groups: Jesus had His inner circle of 3 (Peter, James and John) where he had deeper conversations and life-on-life discipleship. We do this through gender specific FOURmation Groups of you and 3 more once completing the ABIDE Cohort.
How should I begin the Discipleship Pathway?
Your FIRST step of obedience in the Discipleship Pathway is to prioritize weekend gatherings. Your NEXT step of obedience could be any of the following: joining a team, joining a group, or going through the ABIDE Cohort on our website and creating your own FOURmation group.
